Yuan Jiajun

Yuan Jiajun (Chinese: 袁家军; born September 1962 in Tonghua , Jilin Province ) is a Chinese aeronautical engineer and politician. He is the governor and deputy party leader of the Zhejiang Province Communist Party . Prior to his political career, Yuan was best known for his role as head of the Shenzhou program , which brought the first Chinese into space in 2003 .

Life

Yuan was born in Tonghua, Jilin Province. In September 1980 he graduated from Beijing Aerospace University with a focus on aircraft design and applied mechanics. In July 1984, he joined the Ministry of Aerospace. After graduating, he worked as a PhD student. He studied abroad at the German Aerospace Center and returned to China in August 1990 to return to work for the Ministry of Aerospace. He rose there continuously and increasingly took on managerial administrative functions. In April 2000, he was appointed director of the Shenzhou manned space program.

Yuan became Vice President of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation in November 2007 and participated in the Chinese Lunar Mission and the Sino-Russian Mission to Explore Mars . From 2012 he also got involved in politics and joined the permanent party committee in Ningxia and became vice chairman of Ningxia in 2013. In August 2014, Yuan was appointed a permanent committee member of the Zhejiang Prosperous Coastal Province Party, and then assumed the post of lieutenant governor.

In November 2016, Yuan was appointed deputy party chief of Zhejiang and head of the Zhejiang Political and Legal Commission. Yuan was appointed governor of Zhejiang in April 2017 and was sustained on July 7th.

Yuan has received numerous awards for his work in the Chinese space program.

Yuan was an alternate member of the Chinese Communist Party's 17th Central Committee .
