Harald Scheid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harald Scheid (born May 6, 1939 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German mathematician, professor emeritus at the Bergische University in Wuppertal and author of numerous mathematical specialist literature and textbooks. In addition to his work on mathematics didactics , the focus of his mathematical work was on number theory .

Life

Harald Scheid studied mathematics and physics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1958 to 1964 . He received his doctorate from 1964 to 1966 under Hans Rohrbach and Bruno Müller on the subject of arithmetic functions over partial orders . This was followed by his habilitation in mathematics on December 23, 1970, where he held the chair of mathematics in Mainz until March 31, 1971. During the time of his habilitation in Mainz, Scheid dealt among other things with the folded products of number theoretic functions . In a work from 1968 he showed that the set of all natural numbers in whose p-adic representation the digit does not appear does not contain an arithmetic progression of length . Since 1974, two years after the university was founded, he headed the chair for didactics in mathematics at the Bergische Universität in Wuppertal. He was one of the founding members of the then independent department of mathematics.

Scheid was involved in the development of the mathematics didactic project MathePrisma in an advisory capacity , which was awarded 1st place by the Society for Media in Science in 2001 . Harald Scheid retired in 2004.

He worked as the author and editor of over 50 textbooks, encyclopedias and specialist books such as the student dude, mathematics .

Scheid is married and has a daughter and a son.
