Yul Anderson

Yul Anderson (born April 23 in Sacramento , California ) is an American pianist, guitarist and singer who plays a mixture of gospel , blues and soul as well as classical music from the 18th and 19th centuries.

life and work

Musical creation

Yul Anderson grew up in Vallejo, California. His mother was a social worker; his father, with the stage name John Kasandra, was dubbed the “father of urban blues” and released several hits in the sixties under Stax Records and later Capitol Records .

Yul Anderson himself played guitar at the age of eight and appeared in the opening act for Ray Charles at twelve . At the age of fourteen he taught himself to play the piano. At this early age, his musical influences came from gospel and blues, from role models such as Mahalia Jackson , BB King , Muddy Waters and Jimi Hendrix .

In addition to his work as a pianist, Anderson perfected his guitar playing and pioneered the first Jimi Hendrix memorial concert in 1972. To this day he regularly gives guitar concerts under the title "Yul Anderson Plays Jimi Hendrix".

In the 80s he initiated the “Multi-Cultural Entertainment Circuit” in Europe as part of Amnesty International together with the British press officer of the organization, Richard Reoch, which organized a large number of successful benefit concerts in various European countries. He himself gave solo piano concerts throughout Europe for the benefit of the human rights organization. He has lived in Denmark since 1983. He gives street concerts and at the same time appears in the most famous concert halls. He is also the first artist to play live concerts in planetariums.

In 2002 John Malkovich used Anderson's solo piano version of Bob Dylan's " All Along The Watchtower " in his directorial debut, " The Colonel and the Dancer ".

In 2005 Anderson was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize because of his many years of commitment to peace projects.

In his music, Anderson uses influences from Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan to Johann Sebastian Bach; in his appearances he constantly reinterprets his own pieces.

Inventiveness

Yul Anderson, who graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in rhetoric and economics, has patented several inventions in addition to his musical activities, including HaloSurround, a novel surround sound headphone system that has six or more speakers arranged in a circle around the head .
