Yulin ( Chinese  玉林市 , pinyin Yulin Shì ; Zhuang Yilinz Si ) is a prefecture-level city in the southeast of the autonomous region of Guangxi of Zhuang in the People's Republic of China . The administrative area of ​​the city has an area of ​​12,839 km² and around 5.76 million inhabitants (end of 2016). 547,924 people live in the actual urban settlement area of ​​Yulin (2010 census).

The city is known nationwide for its large dog meat festival , which takes place every year around the summer solstice and at which around 10,000 dogs are slaughtered and eaten. Animal rights activists at home and abroad have launched several protests against it.

Administrative structure

At the county level, Yulin is made up of two districts , four districts and one urban district. These are:

  • Yuzhou District (玉州区), seat of the city government;
  • District Fumian (福绵区);
  • District Xingye (兴业县) km² 1487, 680,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Shinan (石南镇);
  • Rong County (容县), 2,257 km², 770,000 inhabitants, capital: Rongzhou Municipality (容 ​​州镇);
  • Luchuan district (陆川 县), 1,551 km², 920,000 inhabitants, main town: Wenquan municipality (温泉 镇);
  • Bobai district (博白 县), 3,836 km², 1.5 million inhabitants, main town: Bobai municipality (博白 镇);
  • City of Beiliu (北流市), 2,457 km², 1.2 million inhabitants.
