Yusuf Çetin

Mor Filiksinos Yusuf Çetin ( Aramaic ܡܪܝ ܦܝܠܘܟܣܝܢܘܣ ܝܘܣܦ ܓܬܝܢ, Born August 20, 1954 in Kerboran near Midyat , Mardin Province ) is a Turkish metropolitan and patriarchal vicar of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Istanbul and Ankara .

Life

As an Aramaic from Tur Abdin in Southeast Anatolia , Mor Filiksinos Yusuf Çetin showed his interest in the Syrian Church at an early age . After completing his schooling, he learned the Syrian language and regularly visited the Mor Gabriel monastery in his home province - one of the last old surviving Syrian Orthodoxy institutions. He was ordained a priest in 1971 at the age of 17 , and shortly thereafter he was entrusted with theological training of the next generation. In 1977 he was consecrated with the title of "Spiritual" and received an invitation from the PatriarchMoran Mor Ignatius Zakka I. Iwas to Syria to teach theology at the St. Mor Efrem School in Damascus . After graduating with a diploma , he was appointed dean of the school. He is also an alumnus of St Cross College of the University of Oxford .

On September 28, 1986, Mor Filiksinos Yusuf Çetin was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan by the Patriarch and assigned to the Diocese of Istanbul and Ankara as Patriarchal Vicar. After the twentieth anniversary of his entry into service, he met Pope Benedict XVI. on his trip to Turkey in 2006 .
