The Załuski Chapel is one of the 19 chapels that surround the Kraków Cathedral . It is dedicated to John the Evangelist and is located in the southern ambulatory .

history

On the site of the chapel and the Jan Olbracht chapel , the Jan Grot chapel was built in Gothic style before 1344. It was divided into two chapels around 1501 and the western Jan Olbracht Chapel was rebuilt in the Renaissance style for King Jan I. Olbracht , who died in 1501 . The Krakow castellan Walenty Dembiński was buried in the eastern chapel in the 16th century . His Renaissance tomb from 1584 has been preserved. Between 1758 and 1766 the chapel was rebuilt in the Rococo style by Francesco Placidi for the late Bishop Andrzej Stanisław Załuski . He also created the new tomb for the donor of the chapel, Bishop Jan Grot . Salvator Monosilio created the rococo altar in 1767.
