Zabel Oseborn

Zabel Oseborn (* in Stralsund ; † 1528 there ) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund for over thirty years .

Zabel (also: Sabel) Oseborn was the son of Stralsund councilor Johannes Oseborn and Brigitte Rubenows, the descendant of the Greifswald mayor Heinrich Rubenow , whose coat of arms and possessions passed on to him with the inheritance.

Oseborn was elected to the city council in 1491 and mayor in 1494. He mediated among other things in a dispute between the sovereign of the city, Bogislaw X. of Pomerania and Stralsund.

He initially supported his son-in-law, Christoph Lorbeer , who had been a councilor since 1507. In a dispute with Mayor Henning Mörder about the Mützkow estate, he created bitter enemies in him and his descendants, including Roloff Möller , who later cracked down on him in the council. Oseborn was a supporter of Catholicism and an opponent of the Reformation and the new council constitution, which broke up the aristocratic council structure.

Oseborn died in Stralsund in 1528.
