Zabūr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zabūr ( Arabic زبور, DMG Zabūr ) is according to the teachings of Islam the holy book that Dawud ( David ) was revealed by Allah and is one of the holy books that were revealed before the Koran . Probably this means the Book of Psalms .

The word Zabur appears three times in the Koran. In Sura 4 : 163 and Sura 17 : 55 it says “We gave David a book” (We = Allah), and in Sura 21 : 105 it is quoted from the book without mentioning David: “And already we have in the book after the exhortation, written that My righteous servants should inherit the land. ”In these three verses - and only there in the Koran - the word Zabur stands for book . The quote “My righteous servants should inherit the land” is not only similar to Ps 37.29  EU , but also uses the same Semitic roots for “land” (Arabic ارض, Hebrew ארץ) and “inherit” (Arabic ورث, Hebrew ירשׁ). The remark “after the admonition” probably refers to the revelation to Moses , which is mentioned in verse 48 of the same sura. Because of this correspondence and the mention of David, it is generally assumed that the Zabur is the biblical book of Psalms . In some languages with predominantly Muslim speakers, a word derived from Zabur is used when referring to the biblical psalms, e.g. a. in Turkish , Bosnian , Kurdish , Urdu and Swahili .
