Zahir Pajaziti

Zahir Pajaziti (born November 1, 1962 in Turičica near Podujevo , Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia ; † January 31, 1997 in Pestova near Vučitrn , Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) was a co-founder of the UÇK . He was the first UÇK commander to die fighting against Serbian units.

Life

Zahir Pajaziti attended primary school in Turičica from 1968 to 1976, then a secondary school in Vučitrn. In 1981 and 1982 a short study of the English language at the University of Prishtina followed.

In 1981 Pajaziti was the organizer of political demonstrations in Podujevo. In the mid-1990s he was an activist for the Parliamentary Party of Kosovo (Partia Parlamentare e Kosovës) in Orlane . At the same time he was a co-founder of the KLA, founder of its headquarters and one of its leaders from 1996 to 1997. On January 31, 1997 Pajaziti was killed in combat against units of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior.

The Serbian side accused him of having carried out attacks on Serbian police units with his group in Kosovo as the leader of the UÇK .

Honors

On November 28, 2000, UÇK commander Agim Çeku unveiled a statue in honor of Pajazitis in the center of Pristina. During the war in Kosovo , a brigade of the UÇK had Pajazitis's name; today, streets and squares are named after him by Albanian-dominated city administrations in Kosovo.
