Zaina Schaban

Zaina Schaban ( Arabic زينة شعبان, DMG Zaina Šaʿbān , often Zeina Shaban or Sha'ban ; * May 12, 1988 in Amman ) is a Jordanian table tennis player . She studied at the Royal Holloway College of the University of London , the subjects Economics and Management .

Schaban has been playing table tennis since she was eight years old. In 2003 she was voted Athlete of the Year in her native Jordan , where she became an icon. At the age of 16 she took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics and reached 33rd place. Since the 2005/2006 season, Schaban has also worked for the II. And III. 3B Berlin women's team in the upper, regional and 2nd Bundesliga.

On August 8, 2008, she was the flag bearer at the official opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics for her country, Jordan .

In the preliminary round of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , she was eliminated from the Czech Dana Hadačová with 0: 4 sets.

Schaban is currently in 278th place in the ITTF world rankings (as of December 2008). Her best placement was world number 269 (June 2005).
