Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi

Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi ( Urdu ذکی الرحمٰن لکھوی; Born December 30, 1960 ) is a Pakistani pharmacist and allegedly a leading member of the Islamist group Lashkar-e Taiba (LeT).

Life

Lakhvi studied at the Jamia Mohammadia in Gujranwala , at the Ahl-e-Hadith School. He ran a pharmacy in Lahore , Pakistan . He was later accused of using the money raised there to finance terrorism. Twelve years after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai , he was arrested in Pakistan in early January 2021. He was taken into custody in Lahore by Pakistani authorities. When he was arrested, Lakhvi was believed to be one of the leaders of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group.

The United Nations had classified Lakhvi as a terrorist. Lakhvi was arrested by Pakistani authorities immediately after the attacks in Mumbai. However, due to lack of evidence, he was released in 2015. According to UN information, Lakhvi is the military commander of the LeT. In this role, he led LeT operations in Chechnya , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Iraq and Southeast Asia, among others . In 2004, according to the UN, Lakhvi provided fighters and funds for attacks against US forces in Iraq. In 2006, according to the UN, Lakhvi directed LeT members to train suicide bombers . He is said to have run a training camp in Afghanistan.
