Zanko Lavrenow
Zanko Ivanov Lavrenow ( Bulgarian Цанко Иванов Лавренов ; born November 24, 1896 in Plovdiv , † October 19, 1978 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian painter .
Life
Lavrenow learned to paint as an autodidact . In his works he continued the painting tradition of the Bulgarian Revival . His motifs often show historical buildings and cities in Bulgaria, as in his monastery cycle, or deal with social or historical topics. In addition, he dealt with the socialist society of Bulgaria. He also created mountain views.
Lawrenow was also active as an art historian and art critic.
As a hero of socialist work , he was awarded the Georgi Dimitrov Order and the Dimitrov Prize. A street in Plovdiv was named after him. The same has been true since 2008 for Lavrenov Point , a headland on Robert Island in the Antarctic.
