Children's game of the year : list of recommendations 2017

Magic to the power of three is a board game by game designers Michael Palm and Lukas Zach . It was published in German by Pegasus Spiele in 2016 . The game is suitable for two to six players, ages 6 and up, and takes around 20-30 minutes. In 2017, the game was included on the recommendation list for children's game of the year .

Equipment and gameplay

In addition to a game board, the game contains various tiles (tree tiles, magic potions, magic dice, ghost clock ...). The players slip into the role of 2nd class magic students who have illegally visited a secret midnight market for magic supplies. But actually they should have been in bed long ago! That's why it's important to sneak back to school after dark. Willi the Guardian Spirit is on their heels. The game is cooperative - either everyone wins together or they lose together.

Game flow

In each round, each player rolls exactly two dice. Symbols are shown on it, where you have to guess on which hidden tree tiles they are placed. Good memory is therefore required here. Children can do better than adults in this area, which is why magic to the power of three is recommended as a family game. There are also a few other symbols that lead to specific events. The players can support each other - except at the end of the game, when the stairs to the school have been reached (since there should not even be whispered thematically appropriate). The level of difficulty is variable - according to the selected support tiles (magic potions and dice magic).
