Career

As a player

Kiklhorn was from the 1981/82 season in the squad of the EHC Essen-West , with which he played in the second highest German league, the 2nd Bundesliga, and won the German championship. There the striker was able to achieve 43 points scorer in 22 completed games. After the end of the season he was poached by the then league competitor SC Duisburg. After he was able to increase his points in Duisburg again, the people in charge of the Herner EV became aware of the native Czechoslovakia and transferred him to the Ruhr area for the 1983/84 season. There Kiklhorn was one of the top performers and the best scorers within the team. In his first season for Herne he was able to score 71 times in 33 league games and had contributed a considerable part to the fact that the team, as promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, even reached the qualification for the 1st Bundesliga.

During the following season he moved back to Essen (1st Bundesliga). With the EHC Essen-West he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga in the same season. In the coming season he suffered a serious injury (broken wrist) and his ice hockey career seemed to be over. The EHC Essen-West rose to the top division. After his injury had healed, he was available again at the beginning of the new season for the EHC Essen-West and this season made it back to the 2nd Bundesliga with the EHC. In 1988 he ended his ice hockey career as a player.
