Leopold von Winter

Johann Friedrich Karl Adolf Leopold von Winter (born January 23, 1823 in Schwetz ; † July 9, 1893 ibid) was a Prussian civil servant, member of parliament and mayor of Danzig .

Life

He came from a Palatinate family and was the son of superintendent Leopold Winter , who received the Prussian nobility recognition as "von Winter" on May 28, 1828 in Berlin .

Winter studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and entered the Prussian administrative service as an ausculator in 1845 . In 1847 he was a government trainee in Danzig and later an assessor in Marienburg . From 1850 he was first deputy and then district administrator of the district Lebus . In 1859 he became a secret councilor and lecturer in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior. Between 1861 and 1862 he served as police chief in Berlin on an interim basis . From January 1, 1863 to 1890, Winter was Lord Mayor of Danzig.

As a member of the National Liberal Party, he was a member of the Reichstag from 1871 to 1878 . From 1872 he was a member of the Prussian manor house . Winter was also a member of the Provincial Parliament for West Prussia and from 1878 to 1890 a member of the Provincial Committee. He was considered a confidante of Crown Prince Friedrich .

Winter also belonged to the "German Association for Public Health Care". He was also a member of the “Danzig Natural Research Society”. In 1862 he implemented an amendment to the statutes, according to which access was now open to anyone interested in Danzig.

In 1890 he was made an honorary citizen of Gdansk. He was a landowner in the district of Kulm (Vistula) . Winter died shortly before midnight on July 9, 1893.
