Zdravko Rajkov (Serbian: Здравко Рајков) (born December 5, 1927 in Čurug , † July 30, 2006 in Mexico City ) was a Yugoslav football player and coach .

biography

Rajkov began his career at FK Vojvodina Novi Sad , with whom he rose to the top Yugoslav division in 1950. The striker established himself with the team in the first division and quickly became a selection player in the Yugoslav national team . With the national team he won the silver medal at the 1952 Olympic Games . At the 1958 World Cup he was part of the squad of national coach Aleksandar Tirnanić . Used in all three group matches, he helped to reach the quarter-finals with a goal in the 3-3 draw against Paraguay . Against the later World Cup fourth Germany he was eliminated with the team there after a goal by Helmut Rahn with a 0-1 defeat.

In 1962, Rajkov left Yugoslavia as runner-up and moved to Switzerland for FC Lausanne-Sport . After only a year he moved on within the national league , at FC Biel-Bienne he played until the end of his career in 1966. He then returned to FK Vojvodina as a coach. In 1968 he went to the Iranian national team as national coach . From 1970 he worked as a club coach in Iran, with Esteghlal Tehran he won the national championship twice. In 1977 he took over Sepahan Isfahan for one season.

In 1978 Rajkov left Iran and went to Algeria as the national coach. With the Algerian national team he reached the final of the 1980 African Cup in a duet with Mahieddine Khalef , but this was lost to Nigeria . He was then solely responsible for the selection, but was replaced in 1981 by Jewgenij Rogow , Mohamed Maouche and Rabah Saâdane . He then went to Spain, where he coached the second division club FC Córdoba . He later settled in North America and died in Mexico in 2006.
