Both mines were also known as the Zeche Josef .

The Joseph mine was a small mine , the owner of this small mine was Antonius Breckweg. This colliery later became the property of Heinrich Dickerhoff. The mine was put into operation on October 1st, 1951. It has been the shaft 1 up to the 2nd sole geteuft . The second level was at a depth of 34 meters (+134 m above sea level ). In 1953, shaft 2 was sunk, the starting point of this shaft was west of Holzwickeder Straße. In 1955, the fourth level was set in shaft 2 at a depth of 83 meters (+84 m above sea level). In the following year, on October 30th, operations were stopped because the colliery had become uneconomical. In 1957 it was finally shut down. The shafts were filled and the daytime facilities were demolished. On July 31 of the same year, the miners deregistered. With the closure of the Joseph mine, mining in Holzwickede also ended.

In 1955 the production sank to 2947 tons of hard coal, this production was provided by 34 miners. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine are from 1956, in that year 5730 tons of hard coal were extracted.
