history
Around 1840, in the area of the Borbeck community, several exploratory drillings by various unions in search of hard coal deposits worth building were found. A consortium Wesel 1,841 merchants founded the union New Wesel , the near Borbeck Castle on the road from Borbeck to Bedingrade with the sinking began a Schurfschachtes.
In 1842 this shaft went into operation with a Göpel mine . After the use of operating systems supported by steam engines , funding could be increased. In 1858 the shaft building burned down . The promotion had to be stopped, the union filed for bankruptcy .
In 1861 several surrounding mine fields were consolidated with the Neu Wesel mine field . A new union in New Wesel began to restore the shaft damaged by the fire . The Schalker Gruben- und Hüttenverein AG , founded by Friedrich Grillo in 1872, took over the mining property in Neu Wesel in the same year and rebuilt the shaft. Current condition
As the outer shaft of the Wolfsbank colliery, the Neu-Wesel shaft remained in operation until the colliery was closed in 1966. The shaft was then backfilled and the shaft building was demolished. On the site at today's Neuweselstrasse there are now residential and commercial buildings.
