The Zeitschrift für Ostdeutsche Familiengeschichte (ZOFG) is a quarterly scientific genealogical journal that deals with genealogical and regional-historical topics in the former settlement areas of Germans in Eastern and Southeastern Europe . In terms of geography, it therefore not only deals with more frequently represented areas such as Silesia , East / West Prussia and Pomerania , but also less well-known regions such as Volhynia or Central Poland . In terms of content, it mainly contains representations, but also smaller source publications and book reviews of the relevant newer specialist literature.

The magazine was founded in 1953 as East German Family Studies . The first editor was Gottfried Roesler. After his unexpected death in 1960, Gerhard Geßner temporarily took over the position of editor until it was finally filled permanently in 1962 by Roland Seeberg-Elverfeldt (until 1990). The journal was published under the name Ostdeutsche Familienkunde by Verlag Degener & Co until 2009 , after which it was taken over and renamed by the publishing house of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ostdeutscher Familienforscher . Members of the association receive the journal for East German family history as part of their membership.

Ulrich Schmilewski is the editor (since 1990).

The journal is summarized in volumes of three years, which have been made accessible with a printed register of family names and places. So far, 18 volumes have appeared. For the years 1 to 8, the index work Der Schlüssel 1965 published the table of contents in print. From year 58 (2010) the publishing association maintains a publicly accessible database.
