Zelleria hepariella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the web and bud moths (Yponomeutidae).

The color of the moths consists of a strong orange and they reach a wingspan of 12 to 14 millimeters. The markings of this species consist of some dark scales on the back half of the forewings, which do not vary. Sex dimorphism is not pronounced.

Occurrence

Zelleria hepariella is widespread from Europe to northern Asia Minor . The species is rarely found and only found locally, it is rare in some areas. In the Alps it rises to 1,400 m.

Way of life

The caterpillars sometimes eat gregariously in the leaves of ash ( Fraxinus excelsior ), various honeysuckle species ( Lonicera ) and mugwort ( Artemisia ).

Studies have shown that various aliphatic esters of acetic acid at zelleria hepariella as pheromones act.

Flight and caterpillar times

Zelleria hepariella forms a generation that flies from September to October. The moths overwinter until May of the following year. The caterpillars can be found on the above-mentioned plants from May to August.
