The tent church Kippekausen is located east of the Motte Kippekausen in the Kippekausen district of Bergisch Gladbach , Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis .

history

In 1959, the Protestant parish acquired the site in the park settlement of Kippekausen . There was enough space to build a church, a community center and a rectory. According to the plans of the Cologne architect Georg Rasch, the laying of the foundation stone and the topping-out ceremony were celebrated on July 24, 1965. The towering roof of the tent church consists of a wooden construction that rests only at four corner points and which, viewed from the inside, results in a star shape with an octagonal floor plan. To the east, the church, which offers space for 400 parishioners, borders a pond. The inauguration of the community center took place on Palm Sunday, March 19, 1967.

The community center next to the church was dedicated on March 19, 1967. Attached to this is an additional meeting room as well as the rectory and the sexton's apartment. In 1979 the community center was expanded to include an extension. The community library is located here.

In 2009 the Protestant Church Association officially adopted the popular name " tent church ".

The cross hanging above the altar is a replica of the Helmstedt cross from around 1060 .
