Zeltus Amasa is in Southeast Asia occurring butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Gossamer (Lycaenidae).
features
butterfly
The wingspan of the moth is 21 to 28 millimeters. The species is characterized by a clear sexual dimorphism . The upper side of the forewings in the males is dark blue, with the basal region shimmering azure to violet blue depending on the incidence of light. The upper side of the hind wing is also colored blue, but usually shows a light blue sheen. Females are unmarked light brown on the forewings, yellow-brown to ocher-brown on the hind wings. The underside of the hind wing is ocher in both sexes in the submarginal and postdiscal region and cream in color in the disk and basal region. Dark brown stripes stand out between the regions. There are two dark blue spots on the outer edge. Two pairs of slightly twisted tails extend from the rear wings, the one beginning at the anal angle being significantly longer than the one starting from the outer edge .
egg
The eggs have a greenish color, a hemispherical shape and a slightly dented micropyle . The surface is covered with hexagonal dimples. The eggs are laid one at a time on a bud, calyx or stem of a flower of the host plant. Their diameter is 0.7 millimeters.
Caterpillar
The caterpillars in the first stage are light green in color, have very thin hairs and feed on the flower buds of the host plant. With a length of about two millimeters, they shed their skin for the first time and take on a yellow-green body color. A constriction is formed behind each body segment. Up to the fourth and last stage, the caterpillar shows the same appearance as the two previous stages.
Doll
In contrast to the typical elongated shape of most species of Bluefin , the pupa of Zeltus amasa is relatively short and wide (8 mm long and 5.8 mm wide). It is greenish in color and marked with a few yellow-green and brown spots on the abdomen.
Occurrence, subspecies and habitat
The range of the species extends from India over Burma , Thailand and Malaysia to the Philippines . Seven subspecies are listed in the individual occurrence areas . Zeltus amasa prefers to colonize rainforests up to an altitude of 800 meters.
Way of life
The moths fly in several generations throughout the year. They appear in large numbers in April and July with a maximum in November. They seldom visit flowers, but the males have been observed sucking on moist soil or bird droppings. The caterpillars feed on loose tree species ( Clerodendrum ) or mallow family (Malvaceae), for example Pterospermum acerifolium or Clerodendrum larvifolium ( synonym : Clerodendrum wallichii ).
