The Central American Games ( Spanish : Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos) are a regional multisport event that has been held every four years since 1973, usually in the year after the Olympic Games . Eligible are nations of Central America that are members of the Central American Sports Organization (Spanish: Organización Deportiva Centroamericana) ORDECA . These are Guatemala , Honduras , Costa Rica , Nicaragua , Panama , El Salvador and, since 1990, Belize .

The games have an equivalent to the Olympic flame , which is lit in Q'umarkaj, one of the most important Mayan cult sites in Central America. The Central American Games are criticized as they do not include any of the traditional Central American sports such as B. Include the Mesoamerican ball game .

The Central American Games are the second event with this name: The Central American and Caribbean Games , introduced in 1926, operated under the same name until their expansion in 1935.
