The Bundeswehr Central Investigation Center for Technical Reconnaissance ( ZU -stelleBwTAufkl ) is a military service unit of the Bundeswehr in the cyber and information space organizational area , which is directly subordinate to the Strategic Reconnaissance Command . She is stationed in the Upper Franconian barracks in Hof ( Bavaria ).

The investigation center carries out technical, scientific and technical analyzes as part of the technical reconnaissance of the Bundeswehr. It examines, develops, implements and provides processes and prototypical laboratory models based on scientific methods for recording, technical analysis, evaluation and electronic warfare for the Strategic Reconnaissance Command, the armed forces , the military intelligence and national security agencies with comparable tasks.

The investigation center has a unique position within telecommunications and electronic reconnaissance . It is mission-oriented and supportive. As a link between technical and scientific work and practical implementation of the results for the deployment of the Bundeswehr, it contributes to increasing the protection and survivability of German armed forces.

history

In 1971 the technical systems of the US Army in Hof were taken over by the German Armed Forces. Until 1996 the investigation center was called the "Telecommunication and Radar Center of the Bundeswehr". With the foreign missions of the German armed forces , significant new fields of activity were added. The investigation center has been under the Strategic Reconnaissance Command since the beginning of 2002, before that under the Bundeswehr Intelligence Office . Until July 2013 the barracks of the investigating body was called General Hüttner Barracks .

In March 2019, 53-year-old Colonel Torsten Grefe took over command from Colonel Norbert Reineke, who had headed the investigative body for almost 15 years. The head of the investigation center is also the site elder . On the occasion of the handover of command, the investigation center was awarded a troop flag and a banner for the first time .

For 30 million euros, the investigation center is getting a new 2300 square meter office and laboratory building, which should be completed in 2021. The antenna and reception system is also to be renewed.
