Central Indian back

The Central Indian Ridge is a mid - ocean ridge that runs approximately in the middle from north to south in the Indian Ocean . It runs approximately from 25.5 ° S and 70 ° E to the north to 2 ° S and 66 ° E , where it turns northwest towards the Arabian Peninsula. This north-western section is called the Carlsberg Ridge (also Northwest Indian Ridge or Arab-Indian Ridge), it ends at around 10 ° N and 56 ° E .

While the southern section represents the diverging border between the African and Australian plates , the northern section is the interface between the African and Indian plates .

The Central Indian Ridge merges into the Southwest Indian Ridge (also West Indian Ridge) and the Southeast Indian Ridge in the south . The Maldives Ridge joins to the north .
