history

The first dairy in Dargun was founded in 1888 as a cooperative dairy and produced in an outbuilding of the former Dargun monastery . Up until 1989, production was expanded and the company gradually merged with other regional dairies. In 1989 the Dargun dairy processed around 50 million kilograms of milk and produced more than 4,500 tons of hard and semi- hard cheese . This made it the largest cheese producer in the GDR .

After the fall of the Wall , the Darguner Dairy and Nordmilch planned to build a new cheese factory. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Central Cheese Dairy was founded on January 30, 1991. After ten months of construction, cheese production began in the new processing facility on May 18, 1993. In 2008 and 2009 investments were made in new processing technologies.
