The Center for Scientific Further Education ( ZWW ) is the central institution for scientific further education at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg . The ZWW follows the concepts of lifelong learning and education through science. Tobias Scheytt is currently the director of the ZWW.

history

In 2013, the ZWW was founded at the suggestion of the Federal Ministry of Defense with the aim of establishing extra-occupational training courses for the training of junior officers at the Helmut Schmidt University. In 2014, the first students were enrolled in the Military Leadership and International Security (MA) course. A further seven courses have been established in recent years, six of which are currently accredited and one course is in the accreditation process.

After founding the ZWW, from 2013 to 2018 Klaus Beckmann was a member of the board. In 2018 Tobias Scheytt took over the board and Klaus Beckmann was elected President of the Helmut Schmidt University.

Since 2014, over 320 graduates have completed the courses or certificate programs. Around 110 students are currently starting further training courses at the ZWW every year.

organization

The ZWW is an institution of the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg and reports to the President. The ZWW works independently on the development and is responsible for the organization of the scientific training at the Helmut Schmidt University. National and international partner institutions are involved in the scientific further education of selected courses at the ZWW.

The ZWW is responsible for the scientific organizational support of the courses and certificate programs, the scientific sponsorship for each course lies with the responsible faculty of the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. A coordination committee is formed for the implementation of each course. The coordination committee coordinates the participation of the partner institutions in the course.

The ZWW currently offers eight courses of study and individual certificate programs for the professional qualification of various target groups as part of scientific further education. The programs offered meet the requirements of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) as well as the German Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (DQR).

Further training for soldiers

For junior military leaders of the Bundeswehr and allied armed forces, three tailor-made courses are offered exclusively in cooperation with military institutions:

  • Military Command and International Security (MA)
  • Civil-Military Interaction (MA)
  • Leadership in Medicine (MA) or (M.Sc.)

Further training for young executives in business and administration

For (young) executives from companies and public administration as well as soldiers at or after the end of their service life, various in-service training courses are offered in cooperation with other institutions:

  • Behavioral Leadership (MBA)
  • Management in financial administration (MA)
  • Leading Diversity (MA)
  • Project Engineering (M.Eng.)
  • Value creation and knowledge management (M.Sc.)

The ZWW cooperates with national and international institutions in continuing academic education. These include the Ministry of Defense , Ministry of Finance , Staff College , Command Medical Service of the Armed Forces , Civil-Military Cooperation Center of Excellence , Air Force , Joint Support , Hamburg Police , Diversity Charter .

The ZWW is active in the German Society for Scientific Further Education and Distance Learning eV , as well as in the regional group North.
