Klaus B. Beckmann (born November 11, 1965 in Solingen ) is a German economist and has been President of the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg since April 1, 2018 .

biography

Klaus B. Beckmann graduated from the University of Passau with a degree in economics in 1991 . After completing his studies, he initially worked there, then assistant at the Chair of Public Finance (with Reinar Lüdeke ). In 1998 the doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. on the "analytical foundations of the financial constitution" and in 2002 the habilitation with a paper on tax evasion .

In 2002 Beckmann moved to the University of Bayreuth and was sent from there to the newly founded Andrássy University in Budapest to take over the chair of finance . After another habilitation at the Corvinus University Budapest , he was appointed professor (Hungarian law) in 2003. Beckmann was also elected deputy rector of Andrássy University - an office that he held until 2006.

On October 11, 2006, Klaus Beckmann took over the professorship for finance in the department of economics and organizational sciences at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

Beckmann is a member of the educational economics and finance committee at the Association for Social Policy . He served on the board of the Scottish Economic Society and was its first foreign president from 2011 to 2014.

As part of the sub-discipline of "Public Economics", his focus is on questions of tax competition , tax evasion, the taxation of assets and the European financial constitution; In addition, he deals with the economics of education , especially university economics , and security economics . His work is characterized by a combination of microeconomic- financial-theoretical and institutional- economic methods, fundamentally order and institutional- economic approaches are connected much more strongly than in the German tradition with mathematical-formal and empirical methods.

In addition to his work as a professor, Beckmann also works as a reservist in the Bundeswehr . Beckmann had already completed his two-year training as a reserve officer before his studies. Today's Colonel of the Reserve can look back on numerous military exercises and over twenty years of service.

Beckmann has been President of the Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg since April 1, 2018.

Awards

Beckmann was made an Honorary Senator of Andrássy University in 2007. In 2002 he was awarded the Prize for Good Teaching (2001) from the Bavarian State Ministry for Research, Science and Art . Two years earlier he received the OBAG Culture Prize. In 1997 he was awarded the Silver Cross of Honor of the Bundeswehr for his military achievements .
