Certification (biomass)
The certification of biomass serves as proof of the origin of liquid biomass , which is used energetically as biofuel or to generate bioenergy . The certification is based on the EU Directive 2009/28 / EC (Renewable Energy Directive) of the European Union . The biomass must meet certain sustainability criteria, such as B. a minimum savings potential for greenhouse gases , conservation of biodiversity , compliance with social standards, etc.
The implementation of this EU directive into German law took place with the Biomass Electricity Sustainability Ordinance (BioSt-NachV) and the Biofuel Sustainability Ordinance (Biokraft-NachV) that came into force from August 2009 to January 2010 .
The certification of the biomass can be the prerequisite for a funding claim , recognition or tax exemption, e.g. B. on the basis of the Renewable Energies Act , the Renewable Energies Heat Act , the Biofuel Quota Act and other laws.
requirement
The sustainability criteria for certification are set by the federal government and the European Union . One of the objectives is to ensure that no biomass is obtained from nature conservation areas or from areas with high biological diversity ( biodiversity ) in order to avoid the clearing of primeval forests , for example .
In addition to environmental aspects, the sustainability criteria also contain social, economic and other criteria. In addition to the legally prescribed criteria, further criteria can also be met.
execution
Certification is carried out by certification bodies such as B. Agrizert, Bureau Veritas , DQS , Intertek or Technical Monitoring Association (TÜV), carried out according to defined criteria. The certification takes place within the framework of an audit . If compliance with the specified criteria is successfully demonstrated, the certifying body issues the company a certificate .
