Zetland Parish Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zetland Parish Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish town of Grangemouth in the Council Area Falkirk . In 1992 it was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. The church is still in use as such today.

history

The first church in the parish dates back to 1865. Historic Scotland list Alexander Black as the planning architect. However, he died seven years earlier, so there is a possibility that either the architect or the year of construction are incorrectly stated. Furthermore, the building could also have been built according to an older design by Black. Located on Zetland Place , it was expanded in 1879 and later abandoned and demolished to make way for a railroad company to build. Today's Zetland Church was completed in 1911 after a year of construction. On March 14, 1991, the Zetland Church was merged with the neighboring Grange Church . The newly created Parish was named Zetland and the congregation used the premises of Zetland Church from then on. The Grange Church, however, was abandoned and converted into living space.
