Grange Church

The Grange Church is a former Presbyterian church building in the Scottish town of Grangemouth in the Falkirk Council Area . In 1992 it was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. In the 1990s, the building was profaned and converted into living space.

history

The parish dates back to January 10, 1855, when it was formed under the name Grangemouth United Presbyterian Church and moved into a building on Grange Road . In 1900 it merged with the Free Church of Scotland to form the United Free Church of Scotland . In the same year the foundation stone of today's Grange Church was laid, which was completed in 1903 according to a plan by the architect John Benie Wilson and opened on October 29 of the same year. In 1929 the United Free Church of Scotland merged with the Church of Scotland . On March 14, 1991, the Grange Church was merged with the neighboring community. The newly formed Parish was named Zetland and the community used the premises of the nearby Zetland Church . The Grange Church was abandoned and converted into living space.

The church is at the intersection of Park Road and Ronaldshay Crescent in north Grangemouth. Stylistically, it shows elements of the Arts and Crafts movement . The masonry is made of embossed red sandstone . The entrance area is at the foot of the bell tower on the west side. Two triplet lancet windows are arranged on the upper floor to the right of this . In addition, a gable ends flush with triple windows. On the north-facing side of the gable, a semi-octagonal, two-story stair tower emerges from the bell tower. Two lancet windows are built into the gable surface. The building ends with steeply sloping, slate-covered gable roofs . The roof ridge is decorated with a red brick cap and Celtic crosses .
