Zhang Lijia

Zhang Lijia ( Chinese  张丽佳 , Pinyin Zhāng Lìjiā ; born May 1964 in Nanjing , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese author and journalist .

Life

At the age of 16 she started working in a missile factory. During the decade in the armaments factory, she learned English. In 1990 she went to England to study journalism. Her articles have been published in newspapers and magazines. She is a co-author of China Remembers (OUP, 1999) and her memoir “Socialism is Great!” A Worker's Memoir of The New China was ao. a. published by the University of Western Australia Press .

Lijia Zhang was married to Calum MacLeod, a reporter for USA Today . She lives in Beijing with her two daughters .
