Zhao Bingjun ( Chinese  赵秉钧 , Pinyin Zhào Bǐngjūn ; * 1859 or 1864 in Linru , Chinese Empire ; † February 27, 1914 in Tianjin , Republic of China ) was a Chinese politician who served as Prime Minister of the Beiyang government from 1912 to 1913 the Republic of China was.

Life

Zhao served as an official in the Qing Dynasty Administration, and most recently served as the deputy secretary for public security.

After the Xinhai Revolution and the overthrow of the monarchy and the proclamation of the Republic of China on Jan. 1, 1912, Zhao became the first Minister of the Interior of the Republic in the cabinet of Prime Minister on March 30, 1912 Tang Shaoyi appointed, with between 2 May and 16 July 1913, Yan Dunyuan served as provisional minister.

As the successor to Lu Zhengxiang , he finally became Prime Minister of the Beiyang government on September 25, 1912 and retained this position until his resignation on May 1, 1913 and his subsequent replacement by Duan Qirui . The reason for his resignation was the involvement of the Beiyang government in the assassination attempt on the "father of the constitution" Song Jiaoren on March 22, 1913.

Subsequently, Zhao took over the office of governor of the Zhili province and held this office until his sudden death on February 27, 1914. It was subsequently suspected that President Yuan Shikai had poisoned him to prevent him from disclosing details of the assassination attempt on Song Jiaoren.
