Song Jiaoren
Song Jiaoren ( Chinese 宋教仁 , Pinyin Sòng Jiàorén , W.-G. Sung Chiao-jen , maiden name Liàn (鍊), courtesy name Dùnchū (鈍 初); * April 5, 1882 , Hunan Province ; † March 22, 1913 in Shanghai ) was a Chinese revolutionary and politician and co-founder of the Tongmenghui and the Guomindang , of which he was the first president. He died in 1913 as a result of an assassination attempt.
On August 20, 1905, in Tokyo, together with Sun Yat-sen, he founded the Tongmenghui ( Chinese Revolutionary Alliance ) aimed at the elimination of the Qing dynasty and the establishment of a republic . After Sun Yat-sen proclaimed the Republic of China (January 1, 1912), Song converted the Tongmenghui into the Zhongguo Guomindang ( Chinese National Party ) in August . In the elections for the first Chinese National Assembly in February 1913, he led them to victory and was thus the favorite for the post of Prime Minister. Before that happened, he was shot by an assassin at the Shanghai train station on March 20, 1913, and died two days later from his injuries. The then provisional president of the Republic of Yuan Shikai was probably behind the attack, who subsequently exercised a presidential dictatorship and later rose to be emperor.
