Zhao Shiyan

Zhao Shiyan ( Chinese  赵世 炎 ; born April 13, 1901 in Chongqing , † July 19, 1927 in Shanghai ( execution )) was a Chinese revolutionary and founding member of the Chinese Communist Party .

In May 1920, Zhao left China to work and study in France . In France he made contact with Chinese workers who had come into contact with communist ideas; from 1921 he published a newspaper together with Li Lisan . Later he was one of the founding members of a communist youth organization in Europe, along with Zhou Enlai and Zhang Shenfu . In 1923 he went to Moscow to study at the Communist University for the Workers of the East , but returned to China in 1924.

After returning to China, he became secretary of the Beijing Party Organization. In this role he was involved in planning and executing the strikes of sailors and miners in Tianjin and Tangshan . In 1926 he became secretary of the Shanghai and Zhejiang Party Organization and helped organize the three major Shanghai workers' strikes.

Kuomintang police arrested Zhao Shiyan on July 2, 1927 and executed him on July 19.
