Zhe (first name)
Zhe ( Chinese Zhé , in a rising tone), also Tetsu ( Japanese hiragana て つ), is an East Asian male given name.
Meaning and variants
The name is generally in the meaning group 'wise' and can be written with several characters.
- 喆 zhé meaning 'wise'
- 哲 zhé meaning 'wise'
- 嚞 zhé meaning 'philosophy, clear'
In Japanese , the reading varies depending on the On reading or Kun translation, but the meaning remains the same.
The two spellings 喆 and 嚞 stand for 吉 jí 'happy, good, prosperity'. 嚞 is an old sign of giving double and triple names, but it is a current Chinese fashion. Since neither of these were previously implemented in the basic electronic character set of Standard Chinese, there were technical problems with the Chinese singer David Tao, maiden name 陶 喆 Táo Zhé, and his name had to be rewritten with “吉吉”. Wāng Zhé, 王 嚞, a Chinese philosopher of the 12th century, can also be found spelled out 王 喆.
In Chinese, as in the two-syllable Korean names, there are also compound names with these characters.
