Wang Zhijiong

Wang Zhijiong ( Chinese  王 之 炅 , Pinyin Wáng Zhījiǒng ) (born August 18, 1983 in Shanghai ) is a Chinese violinist. In Germany she occasionally uses "Zhi-Jong", an alienation of her first name, as an artist name .

Career

Wang received her first violin lessons at the age of three and was accepted as a young student at the Shanghai University of Music (上海 音乐 学院) with the Chinese violinist Lina Yu at the age of nine . After she had passed her concert exam in Shanghai, she decided to continue her studies in Kolja Blacher's violin class , first in Hamburg, then at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music (Berlin), where she took the concert exam. She also completed master classes with the soloists Pinchas Zukerman and Cho-Liang Lin .

She has performed as a soloist with the Orchester National de France, Orchester National de Lille, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Turku Symphony Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She has worked with Yehudi Menuhin , Yuri Temirkanov, Okko Kamu, John Storgards, Gidon Kremer, Lynn Harrel, Irena Grafenauer and Muhai Tang. She also gave concerts with Erich Wolfgang Korngold and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. She also made a guest appearance under her direction with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris at the Cité de la Musique and made a tour with the Warsaw Philharmonic under the direction of Yoel Levi and Antoni Wit. In September 2012 she made her debut recital at the Lucerne Festival together with pianist Sam Haywood .

In 1998, Wang won first prize in the eighth Yehudi Menuhin international competition for young violinists. This was the last competition led by Menuhin himself. Subsequently, she played as a soloist in a concert directed by Menuhin. In 1998 she also won first prize in the sixth "China National Violin Competition". This makes her the youngest ever winner of this competition. In 2000 she won 3rd prize at the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki. Subsequently, Wang Zhijiong was awarded first prize and three special prizes (including the “youngest finalist”) at the 22nd international violin competition "Rodolfo Lipizer Prize".

She teaches as Kolja Blacher's assistant at the HfM 'Hanns Eisler' and she is the youngest faculty member of the Shanghai University of Music. She also performs solo as a freelance artist.
