Career
Pelšs began his junior career in the city of Daugavpils in southeastern Latvia, where he attended an ice hockey school. In 2008 he moved to DHK Latgale , who played in the Belarusian extra league that season . At the same time he completed 22 games for the second team in the Latvian ice hockey league and was the team's best scorer with 20 points. He then received a contract with Dinamo Juniors Riga , the newly founded farm team of Dinamo Riga , in the Extraliga and was on the ice in 46 games during the 2009/10 season .
In the NHL Entry Draft 2010 Pelšs was selected in the seventh round at a total of 181st position by the Edmonton Oilers , while Dinamo Riga secured his transfer rights for the Continental Hockey League in the KHL Junior Draft at 175th overall position . The winger was also selected by the Canadian junior team Edmonton Oil Kings in the first round of the CHL Import Draft .
In August 2010 Kristiāns Pelšs then decided to move to North America and joined the Oil Kings, who play in the Western Hockey League . In his debut season he was able to earn a regular place in the squad of the team and was the best rookie scorer of the Oil Kings with 33 points from 63 games . In the 2011/12 season , Pelšs was able to increase his point yield with 50 points again. In addition, he doubled his value from the previous season with 28 goals. The Oil Kings finished the regular season in first place in the league and secured the Ed Chynoweth Cup as winners of the WHL play-offs with a 4-3 win in the final series over the Portland Winterhawks . Pelšs scored 10 points in 17 games. As representatives of the WHL, the Edmonton Oil Kings were qualified for the Memorial Cup and finished it in fourth place.
On May 1, 2012, Pelšs signed a three-year entry - level contract with the Edmonton Oilers . In the 2012/13 season he therefore initially moved to the Stockton Thunder , the Oilers' farm team, in the ECHL . There he scored five points in 13 missions and was appointed in October 2012 for three games in the line-up of the Oklahoma City Barons from the American Hockey League .
On December 5, 2012, Kristiāns Pelšs was suspended by the ECHL for 21 games after he hit an opponent in the face with his bat in the game against the Bakersfield Condors . The American Hockey League also banned Pelšs for over a month. After this suspension, the Latvian was appointed to the squad of the Oklahoma City Barons and was able to establish himself there over the course of the season. On February 15, 2013, he scored his first goal in the AHL against the Texas Stars .

In the following year he was appointed to the U18 team and scored two goals in six games, but could not prevent the team from relegating from the top division.
At the U20 Junior World Championship 2011 Pelšs was again in the squad of the junior national team and helped the selection with four points from five games to rise to the top division. In 2012 he was appointed captain of the junior national team, with which he finally achieved relegation at the U20 World Cup.
