King Zhōng Dīng ( Chinese 中 丁 ; † around 1549 BC) ruled China as the tenth or eleventh king of the Shang dynasty for 11 years (according to another source, 13 years) . He was the son of King Tai Wu . He had two spouses Guǐ ( Chinese 癸 ) and Míng Jǐ ( Chinese 名 己 ). He moved the capital from Bó ( Chinese 亳 ) to Áo ( Chinese 隞 , in today's Henan Province , China). This was the capital's first move after the establishment of the Shang Dynasty. During the Shang Dynasty, the capital moved several times. Ma, Zhibin gives four main reasons for this: 1. flood disasters, 2. following the herds of cattle, 3. avoiding overly pompous court rulings and 4. disputes over the throne.
After the Zhong Ding era, the royal family often began to argue over the heir to the throne, and the rule "Elder brother-king dead, crown his younger brother" was abandoned.
