Zhong Yao

Zhong Yao ( Chinese  鍾 繇 ), also transliterated as Zhong You (* 151 ; † 230 ), was a minister of the Wei Dynasty . He was a well-known calligrapher as a student of the famous Cai Yong ; the development of the rulebook is ascribed to him.

Under Cao Cao , Zhong Yao was tasked with protecting the city of Chang'an , but lost in a tough battle against attacking rival Ma Chao . After the death of Cao Cao's successor Cao Pi , Zhong Yao was appointed Great Teacher of Wei under his successor Cao Rui . His son Zhong Hui was also a calligrapher and officer under Deng Ai .
