Thuro Balzer

Thuro Balzer , actually Arthur Franz Balzer (born May 9, 1882 in Weißhof , West Prussia , † November 8, 1967 in Hanover ) was a German painter . He was best known as a landscape painter and graphic artist .

Life

In 1900 he began his studies as a drawing teacher at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wroclaw ; previously he acquired the basics of craftsmanship in painting workshops. In 1908 Balzer became an art teacher in Rostock . In addition to teaching, he created many landscapes and cityscapes . He was a member of the Rostock Artists Association (VRK) whose business he ran until 1922 and co-founder of the Ahrenshoop artists' colony . In the following years he made several study trips to Italy . Before the Second World War , he created many commercial graphics on behalf of authorities and companies. In 1942 over 80 of his pictures were lost in a bomb hit his studio in Rostock. At the age of 82, he moved with his wife from Rostock to his son in Hanover. A street was dedicated to him in the Rostock district of Brinckmansdorf .
