August Wilhelm Dieckhoff (born February 5, 1823 in Göttingen , † September 12, 1894 in Rostock ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Dieckhoff qualified as professor in Göttingen in 1850. In 1854 he became professor of theology for systematic and historical theology there. In 1860 he became a full professor for historical theology in Rostock, and in 1883 a member of the consistory .

Dieckhoff's research area was the history of the Reformation and its prehistory. He was strongly criticized by Orthodox Lutheran believers, but especially by North American Lutherans, because he questioned the doctrine of verbal inspiration . With Theodor Kliefoth he published the "Theologische Zeitschrift" in Schwerin from 1860 to 1864 .
