The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Library Günther Uecker in Schwerin is the regional library for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
history
In 1779 the ducal government library was founded. After the dissolution of the federal states in 1952, it functioned since 1969 as a general academic library for the Schwerin district with a collection mandate for the Rostock and Neubrandenburg districts as well . In 1990 it was renamed the Mecklenburg State Library . Another renaming to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Library took place in 1995. On January 1, 2006, the State Library was transferred to the State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation . The name affix Günther Uecker has been used to honor the artist since March 10, 2015.
Media holdings
With 660,000 holdings, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Library is today the third largest library in the state after the two university libraries in Rostock and Greifswald .
The focus of the collection is on all media appearing in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the basis of a statutory deposit regulation under state law as well as the works published about the state or the associated historical territories that are recorded and indexed in the state bibliography of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The inventory of 71,000 notes is remarkable, including over 6,000 manuscripts.
All media are listed in the online catalog and registered library users can also order them from home using the online ordering system. The library is connected to the German and international interlibrary loan system.
The society "Mecklenburgica" promotes the cultural (e.g. exhibitions, readings, publications) and scientific (measures of preservation , acquisition of autographs) activities of the library.
building
After several moves, parts of the library have been located since 2002 and since 2004 completely in a building complex at Johannes-Stelling-Straße 29. This consists of a listed old building and a new building built between 2002 and 2004. Both buildings are connected by a bridge.
