Zhuotong fountain

A Zhuotong Well (Chinese 卓 筒 井; Pinyin : zhuótǒng jǐng; Engl. Zhuotong Well) is a well that was drilled using a deep drilling technique invented during the Northern Song Dynasty , which is called 冲击 式 顿 钻 凿井 in Chinese技术; (Pinyin: chōngjī shì dùnzuàn záojǐng jìshù; English "plunge-style rope-assisting drilling technology") is designated. The brine is passed after drilling in straight, large bamboo tubes upwards. The Zhuotong fountain is one of the five greatest inventions of ancient China. The deep drilling and well salt production techniques of Daying and Zigong in Sichuan Province are on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the People's Republic of China (Zigong jingyan shenzuan jizhi jiyi 自贡 井盐 深 钻 汲 制 技艺).

A large community of Dayings is also called Zhuotongjing (卓 筒 井镇).
