Zimmer + Rohde is a German textile publisher from Oberursel that has been family-owned for four generations.

history

On December 1, 1899, Max Marx and Ernst Rohde founded the textile publishing house Marx & Rohde in Frankfurt am Main ; Rohde was the great-grandfather of today's managing director. They obtained high quality fabrics all over Europe; some business relationships with France, England or Italy from those early days have been preserved to this day. The First World War interrupted foreign trade.

In 1919, Rohde's daughter married the businessman Georg Zimmer, who joined the company. Zimmer contributed to rebuilding international contacts and led the company through the Great Depression . Max Marx died in 1933. In 1941 the National Socialists forced the name to be changed to Zimmer + Rohde . After the Second World War, Frankfurt was bombed out. Ernst-Georg Zimmer was able to save the valuable textiles from the bombing raids in the Taunus and started to rebuild the company here.

After Georg Zimmer's death in 1950, his two sons Horst and Ernst-Georg took over the management. Zimmer + Rohde developed the style of timeless elegance in the post-war years. Exports soon began to flourish again. In the 1950s the company had 40 employees. In 1968 the company moved from Frankfurt to Oberursel. In collaboration with independent designers, Horst Zimmer developed his own creations. The "111 Collection" from 1974 was based on 111 colors that could be combined with one another. The textile wholesaler became a fabric publisher whose name stands for high quality.

In 1983, Andreas Zimmer, Horst Zimmer's son, joined the company. Four years later, he took over the management and expanded the design of the company. A separate creation department was established, which develops the collections in coordination with the producers. In 2007, the US company Travers Incorporated was purchased, and in 2014 the German trademark rights to the curtain brand ADO Goldkante .

Zimmer + Rohde today has subsidiaries in New York, Paris, Milan, London, Dubai and Hong Kong. In addition to fabrics for the furnishing sector, the company offers high-quality wallpapers , selected pieces of furniture and accessories such as bed linen, trimmings and handmade pillows.
