life and work
As an autodidact , Zimoun engaged in visual and acoustic activities such as music, composition, photography and painting from early childhood. Already at a young age he began to deal with minimalist, reductive approaches, principles and methods and to be interested in minimalism , as well as related and newly developed art forms. In an interview on Swiss Radio DRS 2 (“Zimoun - Architect for Noise and Sound” by Thomas Adank, Music of Our Time, 2011), Zimoun mentioned the American composer and artist John Cage as one of those artists whose work and thinking he was doing he was most concerned with his youth. In 2000 he received recognition at the Swiss Youth Photo Award. The first exhibitions followed, including in the Photoforum Pasquart Biel / Bienne and the Kunsthalle Bern , as well as various other awards and prizes, including the Aeschlimann-Corti scholarship (sponsorship prize 2005 and main prize 2009), the Kiefer Hablitzel prize at the Swiss Art Awards (2006), the New York Scholarship from the Office for Culture of the Canton of Bern (2007), the Sitemapping / Mediaprojects Award from the Federal Office for Culture (BAK) in 2008 or an Honorary Mention from the Prix Ars Electronica (2010).
Together with the graphic designer Marc Beekhuis, Zimoun founded the label Leerraum [] in 2003 as a platform and network for artists, architects, musicians and designers who deal with reductive principles. Since 2003, Leerraum [] has published more than 60 CDs, DVDs and objects by international artists under the direction of Zimoun.
