Zionskirche (Düsseldorf)
The Protestant Zion Church at Ulmenstrasse 90-92 in Düsseldorf - Derendorf was built in 1969 according to the plans of the architect Lothar Kallmeyer for the Protestant Zion congregation in Düsseldorf. It is an example of how concrete is used not only as a building material, but also to create an architectural expression ( brutalism ).
description
In the ground floor zone there is an entrance hall, from which stairs lead to the church and the parish hall. From the first floor there is a "sculptural concrete wall". The concrete wall on the street side shields the church from the street noise. Light and air only enter the church from the courtyard side. The gable ends are also made of solid concrete, "the height development of which is emphasized by setting back the symmetrical connecting joints behind the building line". Between the two sides of the concrete gable, the floor and roof slab of the church space and the crossbeam on the ridge that supports the bell span freely.
organ
The organ was built in 1969 by the organ builder Detlef Kleuker (Brackwede). The slider chests -instrument has 23 registers on two manuals and pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
