history
The Abbey of Tart founded the nunnery Notre-Dame de l'Assomption ("Assumption of Mary") southeast of Langres in Belmont in 1127 , which was supported by the Cistercian monastery of Beaulieu from 1166 12 kilometers away . From 1147 Belmont was directly subordinate to Pope Eugene III. who was a Cistercian himself. Over the centuries, the monastery was destroyed several times, but also rebuilt, most recently by 1776. After it was closed and sold in 1792 during the revolution , only the guest wing and parts of the convent building and the church are left in the village of Belmont, which have been listed since 2004 stand.
