Theodor August Freiherr Seutter von Lötzen (born July 7, 1778 in Altheim near Ulm , † July 10, 1841 in Karlsruhe ) was a major general from Baden and an honorary citizen of Rastatt .

Theodor August was a member of the Seutter von Lötzen family, originally from Swabia or from Kempten , to whom the imperial nobility came in 1559 . His parents were the chief forest master of the also free imperial city of Ulm and fiefdoms from the Brandenburg region, Albrecht Ludwig Seutter von Lötzen (1737–1790) and Freiin Sybilla Regina von Welser .

Career

Seutter von Lötzen began his career as a cadet in the Swabian district regiment "Prince Ludwig von Baden" , where he also advanced to ensign and participated in the first two coalition wars. In 1802 he rose in the fusilier battalion "Hereditary Prince" to secondary lieutenant and in 1806 in the regiment of Margrave Ludwig to prime lieutenant . In the Fourth Coalition War he was adjutant to Joseph von Cloßmann , commanding general of the Baden contingent , as well as his later father-in-law and acquired the Knight's Cross of the Karl Friedrich Military Order of Merit through bravery in the battle at Stargard . After the end of the war, in December 1807, he was promoted to staff captain in the “Hereditary Grand Duke” regiment and became adjutant to Hereditary Grand Duke Karl von Baden .

In 1809 he was promoted to captain 2nd class in the Jäger Battalion and was commanded to Napoleon's headquarters during the Austro-French War . The following year he was appointed Inspector Adjutant and Wing Adjutant of the Infantry. He rose to major in 1811 . At the beginning of 1813 he was appointed commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion. Before the Leipzig he ran as chief of the General Staff in Prussian captivity . After he was back in domestic service, he rose to lieutenant colonel in 1814 . Since he stood out again in the battle near Strasbourg in 1815, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Karl Friedrich Military Order of Merit and the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion and the Order of Leopold . After the end of the Wars of Liberation, Seutter von Lötzen was appointed Quartermaster General. In 1807 he received the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen and became city ​​commander of Rastatt. He was promoted to colonel in 1823 and in 1824 received the honorary citizenship diploma in recognition of his achievements in the heavy flood in Rastatt . In 1832 he did his farewell obtained from active duty and became the garrison commander of residence appointed. He received the insignia with oak leaves for the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen in 1837 and was promoted to major general in 1838, but at the same time finally resigned his command post for health reasons.

In 1810, Seutter von Lötzen married Maria Gertrud von Clossmann (1792–1868), daughter of the Baden lieutenant general and governor of Karlsruhe, Joseph von Clossmann . The following children were born from the marriage:
