history

In 1233, the Notre-Dame du Sart monastery (sart = clearing) was founded at a place called Barbarnisart (today: Obigies , district of Pecq) and settled with nuns from the Cistercian Abbey of La Brayelle . In 1238 the convent moved to Le Saulchoir (saule = pasture) in Cain near Tournai . The church built there was dedicated to Notre-Dame du Sart. In 1797 the abbey fell victim to the French Revolution . From 1904 to 1937 the Dominican college Le Saulchoir was located here , which later also kept this name in other places (most recently in Paris). From 1942 to 1977 a Carmelite convent was on site.
